Outdoor Fitness Spots in Los Angeles for Beach, Park, and Trail Workouts in 2026

Hi, I’m the owner of Focus Camp, and I’ve been living and training in Los Angeles for years. I opened Focus Camp at 1119 Albany Street because I believe fitness should feel good—fun, sustainable, and part of a real community. In 2026, more people than ever are heading outdoors for their workouts, chasing that perfect mix of sunshine, fresh air, and functional movement. I love it. Nothing beats a beach sprint or a trail hike for building strength and clearing your head.

But I also know that free outdoor spots are amazing until life gets busy, motivation dips, or you want faster, smarter progress. That’s exactly why we created Focus Camp: to give you the structure, expert coaching, and supportive group energy that turns those occasional outdoor sessions into lifelong habits.

Here are my personal favorite outdoor fitness spots across LA—the ones our members hit most often, the ones that keep showing up in your Google searches, and the ones we love incorporating into our 99+ guided outdoor workouts every year.

My Top Beach Workout Spots in Los Angeles

Beaches are where I fell in love with functional training. The sand adds resistance, the ocean keeps you cool, and the vibe is unbeatable.

1. Venice Beach – Muscle Beach Outdoor Gym

This is the classic. The free outdoor gym with rings, bars, ropes, and swings is perfect for calisthenics. I still come here for skill work—muscle-ups, human flags, whatever challenges me that day. Run the boardwalk, do circuits on the sand, or join a pickup game. Early mornings are best before the crowds arrive.

2. Santa Monica Beach & The Strand

The Original Muscle Beach just south of the pier has the famous traveling rings and gymnastic equipment. The 22-mile paved Strand path is ideal for long runs, intervals, or bike-HIIT. We often bring our members here for group beach sessions—sunset workouts are pure magic.

3. Manhattan Beach

Soft sand, volleyball courts, and calm energy. I love it for sand sprints, lunges, and bodyweight circuits. The resistance burns extra calories and builds serious functional strength—exactly what we focus on in our Strength & Conditioning classes.

My Go-To Parks for Outdoor Training

When I want shade, free equipment, or open space for circuits, these parks are my regulars.

1. Griffith Park

Massive trails, Hollywood Sign views, and plenty of grassy areas for yoga or bodyweight flows. I bring groups here for hill repeats that torch legs and lungs. The views alone make the effort worth it.

2. Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook (Culver City Stairs)

These stairs are brutal in the best way. A quick 30–45 minute session leaves your legs shaking and your endorphins soaring. It’s one of the most searched “stair workouts in LA” for a reason—I send members here when they want that extra intensity.

3. Runyon Canyon

Steep trails, off-leash dogs, and 360-degree city views. I hike the full loop when I need cardio plus mindfulness. It’s LA’s most popular urban trail for good reason—great for trail running or power walking.

Favorite Hiking Trails That Double as Killer Workouts

For elevation, endurance, and that post-hike glow, these are the trails I hit most.

  • Temescal Canyon – Waterfalls, bridges, and ocean views. Moderate to strenuous—perfect for building stamina.
  • Fryman Canyon – Shaded 3-mile loop when I want something less crowded than Runyon.
  • Santa Monica Stairs – Wooden stairs for high-intensity repeats when I’m short on time.

A Few Tips From My Years of Training Angelenos

  • Train early or late to avoid peak heat and crowds.
  • Always bring water, sunscreen, and a good playlist.
  • Check air quality—LA’s AQI can change fast.
  • Mix modalities: beach one day, stairs the next, yoga flow on grass the day after.
